This happened just a week ago. It was ACTUALLY from the construction site a few miles away. They blast the horn three times as a warning before using explosives. But yes, yes, of course the first thing to pop into my head would have something to do with Game of Thrones. #424 is random, if I do more than one of these you’d know just how much of a nerd I really am. Don’t want that, do we? :]

Thanks to GRRM for the sound effect. I had a heck of a time trying to find a good horn sound, and lo and behold, it was right there in the book!

Anyway, just a little warm-up comic, five minutes of silliness.

Watching: Help!

This pretty much encompasses the last… 8 months of job searching. This just happened yesterday, it was a bit ironic, and kind of pathetic. My self-doubt has been kicking my ass lately. Pardon my chicken scratch…this was one in a matter of minutes. Despite the lack of day job, I am working a lot on comics so I keep busy in that sense. I will hopefully update this more often, but we’ll see. Thanks for stoppin’ by.

I know, I know, I haven’t updated this in WAY TOO LONG. So here’s an update of things.

I have a new comic out– a science fiction story written by my husband and drawn by me, here’s a little info on it!

It’s about a young woman named Arisia Randir who is stuck in the worst relationship of her life. To escape, she pays for her own kidnapping. Things seem to be going according to plan until she wakes up and discovers that she is all alone on the Brochet Swimmer, the cargo ship that was her means of escape. As she begins to explore the ship, she hears her name called over the intercom.

I reprinted Puddles (not using Moxicopy) and am super pleased with the results. So I’ll also have that at conventions. Pictures!

Nothing got trimmed too much or completely cut off–and no ugly ink splotches and printer lines! I had used Moxicopy because they were cheap, and I got what I payed for–now they are about the same as everyone else so I had no problems finding a new printer. I found Indigo Ink Digital Printing a while ago and the process was very quick and painless. Definitely recommend them and I’ll definitely use them again.

Oh, here’s a picture of Unite and Take Over, one of the anthologies I have a comic in–written by the lovely Kayla Cagan.

Also busy working on a comic pitch, so we will see what comes of that. Details on that with be at a later date.

Started using a real brush to ink stuff instead of a brush pen and so far I’m liking the results. Though, she’s a tad cross-eyed.

The cold will do that to you.

Anyway, I hope you all had a good holiday season, whatever you may celebrate. I’m going to try to update this and my other site more often.

We weren’t able to get it up on soundcloud as my brother’s laptop was stolen. SUCKS big time. It’s a great little song so have a listen.

Also, if you remember “…and Now all Day She Glows”, you may notice some similarities. There’s a good reason for this. Wink wink!

Edit: A super rushed comic about SPX: Since we didn’t table, it mostly focuses on what we did after the con. It gets a bit redundant to keep drawing yourself in front of someone’s table. You’ll thank me later. Pardon the mess!

You’ll hafta click to actually read it, sorry about that. Those cool dudes with us are Justin Peterson and Lee Bretschneider of Adventuring Company , they are awesome, go read all their stuff. Lee is very hard to draw, he looks different in every panel I drew him in…that other awesome dude is Joe Hunter, we didn’t get to see a whole lot of him this weekend on account that he had to spend most of his time Staples because UPS fricked him over.

It’s been a busy year! Almost sold out of Puddles, decided to not sell the rest because they are in very poor shape. (Thanks, Moxicopy) I will be reprinting them eventually.

Lots of things going on, right now I’m working on a comic written by the awesome Tim Miner, a site for said comic should be popping up soon with some preview comics and other fun stuff. Almost done with the art, which I’m doing digitally. I’m ok with it, still not 100% comfortable with it–but I will be doing my other large comic “traditionally” as well as two other short pieces for anthologies. Anyway, here is some previews of the digital comic:

More info on that coming soon. I’m excited to be working on it, it’s a great story and Tim’s doing an awesome job.

The other comic I’m working on isn’t really started yet (work gets in the way) but in short, it’s about giant SPIDERS. I’m really excited for this one, but I keep wondering why I chose spiders…. they are very hard to draw, even harder to draw in my own style. We’ll see how that goes. I’ll have some character sketches up for that, and I will probably start drawing mid-September–as we are moving and I’ll be jobless for a while, gonna see what being a full-time comic artist is like! Also, seriously gotta work on my portfolio site. SERIOUSLY. That will start in August.

Anyway, I think that’s about it. Aside from work and moving, and the horrible heatwave we just had, not much is new. Excited for new things, looking forward to really getting some art done.

Friday, as I said, was Drink and Draw like a Lady! It was a blast! It was an honor to get there early and help out the lovely Lucy Knisley with the set-up.

I went last year and had a great time and met some awesome ladies, and of course this time it was no different! I even got to catch up with folks that I met last year, and they are all still making AWESOME comics. I also met the 14 year-old comic wonder, Emma T Capps, who is running circles around most of us comic folk! She even had a table at MoCCA! She’s pretty amazing now, I can’t imagine the success stories we will hear about her years to come. Also, thanks to Lucy, we even had a photobooth, check out the pics here.

After a sort of restless night, MoCCA arrives, bright and early. We head over to the armory and set up our stuff. We shared a table with Orion Wertz, a spectacular comic artist. It was quite a pleasure to have an awesome table mate. On the right of us we also had another awesome comic/fashion pair. Mindy Fisher and Kelly D. Pelka. Both lovely ladies, I recommend you take a look!

We also got the awesome opportunity to meet the awesome Justin Peterson and Lee Bretschneider. I love them and you will too, I guarantee it! Go check them out. We went out to the Shake Shack after the festivities, where it seemed most of MoCCA went also. Long lines but yummy food, it was WELL worth the wait. Really wanted a shake but damn it was freezing. Next year. I gave away two free copies of Puddles to girls who were wearing wellies! It was pretty awesome, the one girl actually had a cat named Maggie, she was also dressed up sort of the like Maggie from the comic, so yeah, it must have been fate.

Sunday was much of the same, minus the yummy Shake Shack food…but we saw a lot of good people, and I was fortunate enough to stop by a few tables that I wanted to hit. Unfortunately, I missed a lot of tables, and I missed out on buying a LOT of stuff. BOO. But, it was great to see the folks I did get to see, and thankfully there is always next year. Though, considering our limited table browsing, I’d say we made out like bandits. See below!

I shouldn’t need to buy any reading material for the next few months I’d say…Most of what is there is either stuff we bought or traded.  Tons! There would be more if it was a longer festival, but alas, only two days. Thanks to everyone for coming out to see us, and I can’t wait for next year! You guys are all freaking awesome.

Paul will be selling the latest issue of Supertown and a mini comic involving Awesome Man and Shorebird, also of the Supertown world. As most of you know I finally finished Puddles and after a month of waiting to get it printed, it arrived on Monday! Have a look-see!
