yoga

Apparently it was an intense yoga session for his hands to turn out like that. Dream yoga must be much less forgiving.  Anyway, this guy was pissing me off the entire time, I’m trying to teach and he keeps talking to this other guy not even making an effort, why the hell was he there in the first place?  So I completely lose it and start freaking out at him.  Something about respecting me and he shouldn’t be talking and it’s harder than it looks and so on.

I don’t really do a lot of yoga, the extent of what I do ends with the Wii Fit.  From what I have done though, it’s done wonders for my back which has always been a complete mess, pinched nerves up the wazoo.  It feels wonderful.

I later felt really bad for him when I saw him, and I asked him what happened, apparently yoga was just too much for him.  I definitely thought about this considering I’ll be a teacher in about 10 months from now.  I don’t think I would really wail on someone verbally unless they really cause problems, in my classroom I want to try to have some sort of mutual respect, as long as they respect me, I will respect them and treat them like human beings. It’s pretty simple.

Anyway, I’ll be going on vacation tomorrow! And I won’t be back until the 12th, but that’s not to say I won’t be updating, you may or may not see some updates, even if it is just a doodle. Whew!

highschoolcomic

Well, at least in the mental sense, I do look different from my high school years, mainly the hair methinks.  Anyway, my dreams about high school are always super whacked out and sometimes the setting my be high school but my college friends are there.  It was fun, I suppose, but I’d never want to go back.

I always thought about going to college when I was younger, how I’d be a totally different person, and I could start from scratch and no one would know who I was.  I wound up pretty much being the same person I was in high school, and befriending people I would have befriended in high school, none of that sorority bullshit.   I realized that I wasn’t going to change who I was and I realized also that  I couldn’t. Unlike some of my friends, who changed drastically.

I was always the dork/nerd/hippie that loved great music like Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin, the Moody Blues and the Beatles.  I still am, in fact, and now suddenly that’s the cool thing, in the eyes of my old friends who at one point found it repulsive, now claim to love them. Oh well, what can you do? Laugh it off? Expose them? Eh, I’m not interested, there’s no need to impress.

On a good note, I’m getting lots of work done on Positively Fourth Street.  5 pages inked, many more to thumbnail and ink. Weee.  At least I finished the thumbnails for the first chapter, which is roughly around 33 pages.

Listening to: There’s Always Someone Cooler Than You- Ben Folds

I’ll start drawing this week, no TOMORROW, and work towards finishing chapter 1.  I’ll post a few pages here at some time, while I try to find a place to host. Like I said, I have an idea, so we’ll see.

I finally got my brush pen in the mail, it took what seemed like forever, so I tried it out.  It’s nice!

annie copyI fudged up on her eye. Oh wells, it will take a bit to get used to, it’s a little different than using a brush and ink because I don’t always have the full flow that I can control a bit better with an ink well.  It’s still fun to draw with, so I’m hoping it will work out.  As far as tones go, I’ll be sticking to simple tones by using the half tone tool.  I downloaded a bunch of tone but they always come out looking wonky and are littered with that wonderful thing they call moire.  So plain and simple.

Look for more updates as I go! Any suggestions would always be welcome.

sue

Yup, that’s Sue, she’s a co-worker (briefly) of Annie’s, and her first really close friend (aside from her cockroach living in her apartment).  She’s a fun character, her personality is that of two of my good friends from school, she’s got the crazy-frizzy hair of Marlena, and the attitude of Tina. They were always joined at the hip so it’s only natural they are morphed into one character.

I’ve been slacking…I need to do more thumbnails because I would like to start drawing this week.  I’m looking for a place to put it, as Smackjeeves hasn’t been pleasing me lately…

I’ll probably still mirror it there (since it’s where it started) and then send everyone over to wherever I happen to be posting it. I have one site in mind that I’m thinking of, and I hope it works out, as it’s one of the better sites I’ve seen.

Anyway, I’m really looking forward to getting knee-deep in this project. It’s been one that I’ve been working on slowing since about…oh 2004. It’s gone through many, many stages and I’m hoping that this will be the last of those stages. ::fingers crossed::

workingcomic

This was definitely the most frustrating evening I ever had.  This wasn’t recently obviously, since I haven’t worked more than four hours in a week! (Thank you, economy) I wouldn’t mind these dreams now, I suppose, maybe if I was getting paid during my dream.

So I went to bed late since I closed, and I had to open, I believe this was Christmas Eve.  Yeah, I didn’t have any dreams last night so I checked my records for a good one.  Records meaning memory, of course.  So I got home, tried my best to fall asleep as quickly as I could and when I finally did, I was dreaming I was working, then I had to wake up and GO to work.  What the hell is that?

Next time I’m supposed to work is…next Friday maybe? I’m on-call Father’s Day and Monday, who knows if they will need me.  I love how I’m on-call and I’m supposed to call two hours before my shift, but on Sunday no one will be there at 8. That makes no sense. I’ll have to call and figure that one out.  Maybe they will tell me to call the night before.

Not much new elsewhere, I went to Michaels today, the arts and crafts store, and stocked up on some blue pencils, woot.  I’m waiting for my pentel pen to come in the mail, so that I can start drawing.  Right now, though, I’ve been busy doing thumbnails.  Should be interesting.  Wish me luck!!

Listening to: Rockin’ the Suburbs- Ben Folds

Edit: Here is a quick sketch of Sydney, the ANtagonist. Fun.  She’s a bit scary.

sydneyHer eyes are TOO big, I’m trying to give my characters smaller eyes, that’s the only thing I’d like to fix on her.  That is all, I didn’t think I needed to post a whole separate post for this.

No dreams lately, at least none that would make sense as a comic.  I promised I would feature 4 followers from Twitter that would bring me up to 100, but as it turns out, the majority of them were bots! Woo. I’ll have to highlight my favorites though for my next post.  Anyway, I am KNEE-DEEP in scripts and thumbnails right now, the thumbnails are frustrating me, it’s mostly panel placement as usual.  I’m anxiously waiting for my Pentel pens to come in the mail so I can get drawing, hopefully I’ll have better luck this time.

So in the meantime, we have a tablet sketch that has been toned.

pinupYup, she doesn’t have a hand. No, no reason, I just didn’t feel like drawing it.

I’ve just been using different ways to tone, rather than downloading tones and using them, I’d rather just paint and use the halftone filter. (So much easier), but there isn’t a lot of depth.  I think I know the trick to that though.

Anyway, this isn’t anyone specific, but I’ve been working on a commission for a friend, a pin-up of one of his characters. So this was a sketch done in the process, although it looks nothing like his character. She’s out of proportion like, ¡ɐoɥʍ

I have a problem making my characters lips so pouty, they look like dumb college girls posing with a red cup in their hands. Someone teach me how to draw lips!

I think that is all I need to say at this point, I’m working hard on getting Positively Fourth Street up and running, and in the meantime, while I try to find a proper host for it, I’ll probably be posting it on smackjeeves, where I first started posting it.  I would like to find a site that is more open to comic styles other than ANIME! Not that I have anything against it, but over the years, I’ve developed my style, and anime it is not.

Wow, look at me ramble. OK. I’m going to work on the script I guess, or do some other sketches while I watch Frasier.

comiccon

Better late than never, eh? I couldn’t do my typical dream comics, as the most recent one wasn’t too cheery and bordered on disturbing. Anyway, this year, Comic Con was in February.  Paul and I went with three things in mind.

-Get Scott Pilgrim book 5

-Meet Aaron Douglas

-Get a new Munchkin Set

Out of those, we achieved 2! 2 of the more important ones, as we can always get Munchkin at book stores and game stores (though I’m not sure WHY comic con wouldn’t have it).

So one of the highlights was getting Scott Pilgrim book 5. I read it that day while sitting on the stairs.  Plus, I got to meet Bryan Lee O’Malley, whom I have rendered to not look anything like himself, and he signed my book (and actually spelled my name right, you wouldn’t believe how many people can’t spell Tara). For a big comic star, he’s actually human.  By human, I mean humble, I’m so used to comic creators being assholes. Thanks, O’Malley!

ALSO–I met Aaron Douglas, of Battlestar Galactica fame, he ALSO looks nothing like how I drew him (sorry). He was a sweetheart, too.  He signed my tag because I didn’t have enough money on me for a picture to sign, I should have gone back after I hit up an ATM, and I also got a picture with him!  He’s a lot more trim in person than in Battlestar, I suppose they want Chief to be a little stocky.

Anyway, lots of other things happened, we only spent a day there and that was all we needed.  Though next year, we plan on bringing snacks because we spend 9 dollars on a cheesesteak that was only about 5 inches long.  We couldn’t even afford drinks. My friend Monica actually bought a drink but wound up spilling half of it on the floor.  Watered-down lemonade, yum.

9, 9 dollar, 9 dollar cheesesteak.

So that about wraps up Comic Con 2009, I’m really looking forward to next year.

annie

Well here is another Annie sketch.  I’m undecided on whether or not I want to use color or tone.  See above.

Anyway, there is not much going on for me.  I’ve been cleaning out my room after all the boxes and such made their way in there.  I hope to finish it tomorrow if my back will let me, and then I’ll be able to start drawing this out.  Oh the joys of comic making.  Any suggestions to what I should do?  I would love to do color, but that is more time consuming, and tone would be cheaper to print if I decide to self-publish them.  Any thoughts, oh faithful readers?

Thanks for looking!!

anniesketch

Another preliminary sketch of Annie, the protagonist of Positively Fourth Street.  I’ve pretty much finished the first written chapter, it’s a bit unclear since I will be drawing it, I don’t want it to be like 70 drawn pages, I’m aiming for about 30.  Anyway, not much here, just a sketch done on the tablet, and colored in Illustrator.

She still needs  a bit of fine-tuning, but it will be much easier to draw everything on paper when the time comes.

Look for more updates on this, in the next month I hope to finish the first chapter, drawn and everything, so hopefully that will work, and I’m going to try to do it in all color.  Heaven help me on that.

startrek

So I saw Star Trek this weekend, and I must say that I was pleasantly surprised.  It wasn’t too long, wasn’t too short, had a pretty great story line that was very on the note with Star Trek in general.  There was a pretty great cast too, they all seemed to have the mannerisms down when it came to the originals.  I won’t turn this into a spoiler-filled post, but I must say it was great to see a certain someone make a rather awesome appearance.  Whether that’s a spoiler or not, I’ll never know, cause I knew about it prior to seeing the movie.

I was a little wary about seeing this, being a trekkie, I wasn’t sure how they were going to pull it off, but they did, fairly well, actually.  It just makes me want to take a day or a week to just sit and watch Star Trek (TOS).  It was just enough to refuel my trekkie-ness.
